Iris MCP server

Connect your AI receptionist to Claude and ChatGPT

The Iris MCP server lets the AI you already use read and update your Iris account. Ask Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or Codex about your calls, leads, conversations and appointments. Then ask it to act on them. MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the open standard these AI clients use to connect to other software. Iris is the AI receptionist by dotfun for home services, HVAC, plumbing, dental and legal businesses.

Iris MCP server URL

Every client connects to this URL over Streamable HTTP.

https://api.iris.dotfun.co/api/v1/mcp

Add Iris to your AI client

Add Iris to Cursor and VS Code

These steps connect Cursor and VS Code with an API key in a header.

Cursor

  1. Set IRIS_API_KEY in your environment.
  2. Press Add to Cursor.
  3. Open ~/.cursor/mcp.json and add the header to the iris entry:
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "iris": {
      "url": "https://api.iris.dotfun.co/api/v1/mcp",
      "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer ${env:IRIS_API_KEY}" }
    }
  }
}

VS Code

  1. Press Install in VS Code.
  2. From the Command Palette, run MCP: Open User Configuration.
  3. Add the header to the iris server:
{
  "servers": {
    "iris": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://api.iris.dotfun.co/api/v1/mcp",
      "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer ${input:iris-api-key}" }
    }
  },
  "inputs": [
    {
      "type": "promptString",
      "id": "iris-api-key",
      "description": "Iris API key",
      "password": true
    }
  ]
}

VS Code asks for the key the first time it starts the server, and stores it for you.

Add Iris to Claude Code

Add the server:

claude mcp add --transport http iris https://api.iris.dotfun.co/api/v1/mcp

Then run /mcp in Claude Code, choose iris and sign in with Iris.

The Iris skill teaches Claude the Iris API and a daily routine. To get the skill, install the plugin from the Iris agent kit. The plugin connects with the API key in IRIS_API_KEY.

/plugin marketplace add Dot-Fun/iris-agent-kit
/plugin install iris@iris

Add Iris to Codex

Add the server and sign in with Iris. The Codex CLI, the desktop app and the IDE extension share this setting.

codex mcp add iris --url https://api.iris.dotfun.co/api/v1/mcp
codex mcp login iris

To use an API key instead, add the server to~/.codex/config.toml. Codex reads the key fromIRIS_API_KEY.

[mcp_servers.iris]
url = "https://api.iris.dotfun.co/api/v1/mcp"
bearer_token_env_var = "IRIS_API_KEY"

To get the Iris skill:

  1. Run codex plugin marketplace add Dot-Fun/iris-agent-kit.
  2. Open /plugins in Codex and install iris.

Add Iris as a Claude connector

  1. In Claude or Claude Desktop, open Customize > Connectors.
  2. Add a custom connector and name it Iris.
  3. Paste the server URL and save.
  4. Press Connect.
  5. Sign in with Iris and approve access.

Add Iris as a ChatGPT connector

  1. In Settings > Security and login, turn on Developer mode.
  2. Open chatgpt.com/plugins and press the plus button.
  3. Paste the server URL.
  4. Sign in with Iris and approve access.

Add Iris to other MCP clients

Most other clients read a JSON file in this shape. They send an API key. Keep the key out of any file you share.

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "iris": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://api.iris.dotfun.co/api/v1/mcp",
      "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer iris_sk_..." }
    }
  }
}

Sign in with OAuth or use an API key

Chat apps sign in with Iris. Claude, Claude Desktop and ChatGPT open an Iris sign-in page (OAuth). You approve access, and the app never sees your password.

Coding agents can use an API key. Claude Code and Codex can sign in with Iris or send an API key. Other clients send an API key. To create a key:

  1. In the Iris dashboard, open Organization > API keys.
  2. Create a key and choose its scopes. Iris shows the key once.
  3. Send the key as Authorization: Bearer iris_sk_....

Never paste the key into a chat.

ScopeLets the AI

What your AI can do in Iris

The server has 71 tools. Each one acts on one Iris organization.

AreaToolsFor example
Contacts11Search, create, update, notes, tags, history
Sequences26Build, start, pause, enroll contacts, read results
Audiences10Build lists, count them, add or remove members
Appointments7Find open times, book, reschedule, cancel
Conversations7Read threads, reply, send SMS, hold Iris
Forms3List forms and read submissions
Calls2List calls and read one call
Locations2List locations and their booking options
Calendars1List calendars
Territories1List service territories
Me1Show what the key or app can reach

The full reference is theOpenAPI documentin the Iris agent kit. AI tools can read the same reference fromllms.txt.

Example prompts

  • Which leads called yesterday and did not book?
  • Show tomorrow's appointments and flag any without a phone number.
  • Summarize this week's calls. What did callers ask about most?
  • Find contacts tagged "estimate sent" who have not replied in seven days, and draft a follow-up text for me to approve.
  • Which sequence booked the most appointments last month?
  • Move Maria Lopez's appointment on Friday to the next open time on Monday.

Before you let it write

Write tools send real SMS to your customers, book and cancel real appointments, and change your contacts. Keep your client set to ask before it runs a tool. Read each write before you approve it.

For read-only access, create an API key with only read scopes:contacts:read, appointments:read,conversations:read, sequences:read,audiences:read, calls:read andforms:read. With that key, Iris refuses every write.

Iris MCP questions

An MCP server lets an AI client use the data and actions of another product. MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the open standard behind it. Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code and Codex all support it. The Iris MCP server gives them your Iris calls, contacts, conversations and appointments.

Iris answers your calls, texts and web chats, qualifies each lead and books the appointment. Through the MCP server, Claude or ChatGPT reads those records and acts on them for you. It can find leads that did not book, move an appointment or draft a follow-up text.

Run claude mcp add --transport http iris https://api.iris.dotfun.co/api/v1/mcp. Then run /mcp in Claude Code, choose iris and sign in with Iris.

Yes. Turn on Developer mode in ChatGPT, add a connector with the Iris server URL, then sign in with Iris and approve access.

Not for Claude, Claude Desktop or ChatGPT. They sign in with Iris (OAuth). Claude Code and Codex can sign in or send an API key. Cursor, VS Code and other clients send an API key.

Only what the person who connected it can do in Iris: their role, their locations and the scopes they approve. Revoke a connection or a key in the Iris dashboard and it stops working at once.

Iris is one system that answers, acts, and remembers.
